Assemblage Helps Keep the Chaos Under ControlI didn't used to be a pack rat ... really. It's all about Found Object Assemblage.
Somewhere along my creative journey,
I found myself collecting all manner of oddities. Among my favorites is something old and rusty - this can be anything from a found object on the street to all that cool stuff that you find in an old garage or workshop. Garage sales, recycle centers, and the Salvation Army all feed my found object
addiction.
Assemblage is the 3-dimensional relative of collage. Artists such as Jean Dubuffet, Marcel Duchamp, and Pablo Picasso were working with found objects in the mid 1900s. as . sem . blage n. 1. A fitting together of parts. 2. A sculptural composition of miscellaneous objects or found materials. 3. An artistic process in which a three-dimensional artistic composition is made from putting together found objects.--n. -ist.
Part of the allure in creating these pieces is elevating lowly, humble objects usually overlooked or tossed. My goal is to show their intrinsic beauty and celebrate their history. You'll see old jewelry, watch parts, bones, metal washers, old tins, CD cases, vintage keys, and all manner of rusty treasures that I have picked up along my creative travels.
