Abstract Figures on Canvas & Paper

One of my favorite subjects and favorite surfaces
are combined when I create Abstract Figures on Canvas.

This canvas has some wonderful texture that adds interest to the figure.

I'm in the process of creating a series of abstract figures on canvas called "Wild Wonderful Women." Painting in a series forces an artist to really explore a subject. Setting a goal of ten or twenty paintings about a particular subject pushes an artist beyond their comfort zone.

Urana, goddess of creativity, celebrating her creative self!

My sketch book is teeming with ideas for paintings. I find words especially appealing and am currently working on a number of different series, one of which is Words. Another series is based on two books by Marianne Williamson, “A Woman’s Worth” and “A Return to Love.”

At the risk of sounding my own horn, some magnificent, even breathtaking, pieces have come from phrases gleaned from those books.

If you look at my Abstract Figures on Canvas shown below, you’ll see the start of my series, “Wild Wonderful Women.”

Along with my Abstract Figures on Canvas, I have a quite a number of figurative pieces on paper. Click here to view entire gallery of Abstract Figures on Paper below.

This is part of a series of abstract figures on paper called The Emissaries .

Webster defines emissary as an agent sent on a mission to represent or advance the interests of another. I translate this to mean that these peculiar long-legged entities symbolize universal love and the prospect of rebirth. Their mission is to help us shed our current closed-in perception of ourselves and unleash our infinite potential - to step into the unknown.

The Emissary series was on display at the Birmingham Public Schools Training Center in Birmingham, Michigan, from February to June, 2001.

Called "The Watcher," this painting sparked an on-going series of life-size abstract figures on paper the same name. Through these life-sized paintings, I am able to explore the figure in 3D. These free-hanging pieces tie-in with my interest in art dolls, which definitely influenced the development of this series. The entire Watcher series was on display at the Lansing Art Gallery from January 4-28, 2004.

Urana
15" X 22"
$450

This powerful woman on the left exploded onto my surface with very little effort on my part. For those of you up on Astrology you know that Uranus energy is all about quick, sudden changes and is very creative. Hence, her name.

Alien 1.jpg (28386 bytes)
SOLD

Alien_II.jpg (119147 bytes)
Alien II
15" x 22"
$250

This Alien painting began very intuitively. While layering color and textures, the figure started to emerge.

Eggs_Blue.jpg (26229 bytes)

Blue Eggs
22" x 30"
$350

This piece was done right after working on the Emissaries series. Notice the figures are relatively similar? The eggs are a collage from another painting. The tab sticking off to the left is another added collage piece. The complimentary colors of blue and orange make this a striking piece.

Einstein caricature.jpg (58213 bytes)
Al #2
20" x 30"
$450

Albert Einstein is on of my heroes. This piece is one of my humble attempts at his expressing his image. The black showing on the photo is actually torn corrugated matt board on top of the painting.

Nude_Woman.jpg (108943 bytes)
What a Woman!
22" x 30"
$250

Part of my figure studies, this painting has many, many layers of drawing done in a variety of colors.
