To alter means to change. I rescue an old book –be it a novel, text book, or children’s board book. Then paint, collage, cut, fold, glue, draw, and otherwise alter the cover and pages, turning it into a one-of-a-kind piece of custom art work.

I’ve made altered books commemorating my brother’s 40th birthday and my best friend’s 50th. My sister received a sweet little board book celebrating the memory of our mother.
For Christmas a few years ago, I created memory albums for my four children. I used their birth certificates, birthday cards, left over school photos, letters and drawings, and the like. Each of them received an intensely personal creative memorial of themselves.
