The Emissaries Series Figure Paintings
These abstract figure paintings were painted with fluid acrylics on watercolor paper, done in a triptych format. Each picture measures 15" wide by 22" tall.
The surface of the paper was textured by stamping with hand-made stamps or textured objects, the use of collage, or with acrylic gels.
The pink bird-like mother figure was the first completed painting and the spring-board for the rest. The other two pieces in the first series more or less painted themselves - I was just the vehicle. Once the triptych format was established, I was free to explore the Virgin, Mother, Crone concept further.
Almost all of these figures were painted within a six-week time period. I was absolutely driven to complete them. Every chance I got, I was in my studio.
Looking back on this remarkable body of work, I ask myself:
”Did I really do all of these?”
When an artist is in what I call ”the zone”, time is meaningless. Sometimes I don’t even remember doing a particular piece. I believe great things happen when an artist connects with the collective consciousness and their higher creative power.
You will find this art work very inspirational. When displayed in as a group in an art gallery, they are captivating.
This series of figurative paintings are guaranteed to evoke an emotional response.
Enjoy the ride!

This was one of the last triptychs. A noticeable change occurred in the content of the paintings. No longer overtly female, these figures appear more
masculine. Notice that they are all reaching for something.

Emissaries Taking Flight (I left these larger to allow appreciation of the detail)
These were the final three paintings for the Emissary series. For me they embody the end of the journey, a successful completion of a quest. They put me to mind of a poem I read some time ago. This may not be exactly correct, but is what I
remember:
|
Come to the edge life said
We are afraid, they said
Come to the edge life said
They came
Life pushed them
They flew .... |
